Android unable to transfer files to Windows through USB

My phone is HONOR Magic V2 with Android 15, and I cannot transfer files to my Windows 10 Pro via USB. When the phone is connected to my PC through the USB cable, I can hear the Windows insert device sound. I clicked the "Transfer files" mode on my phone, but it just disconnected (I can hear the disconnected device sound effect on my PC) and immediately went back to "Charge only" mode. The same results appeared when I clicked the "Transfer photos" mode. I tried the reinstalling wdpmtp.inf method and it did nothing.

I uses the original USB cable that comes with the phone, and I have tried other USB cables, and nothing changed.

My Android phone used to connect to my PC via MTP and worked. Since last year, starting from a certain day this year, the MTP suddenly fails. I don't know the reason, so I asked here for help.

    Welcome Jayden,

    Thank you for providing the details and the screenshot. Based on the Device Manager message shown in the image: 

    "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)" , "The USB device returned an invalid Microsoft OS extended configuration descriptor." 

    Since you have already tried different USB cables and reinstalling wdpmtp.inf, I would like to gather a bit more information while also suggesting a few additional checks. 

    • Does the same phone successfully transfer files to a different computer using MTP? 
    • Does another Android phone successfully transfer files on this Windows 10 PC? 
    • Please check Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history and let us know approximately when the issue first started

    In the meantime, please try the following: 

    Step 1: Remove the failed device completely 

    • Open Device Manager
    • Expand Other devices
    • Right-click the Unknown device shown when the phone is connected and select Uninstall device
    • Check "Delete the driver software for this device" if the option appears, then restart Windows

    Step 2: Disable USB selective suspend 

    • Open Control Panel > Power Options
    • Select Change plan settings next to your active power plan
    • Select Change advanced power settings
    • Expand USB settings > USB selective suspend setting and set it to Disabled
    • Restart the PC and test again

    Step 3: Try a different USB controller 

    • Connect the phone directly to another USB port on the PC (preferably a USB 2.0 port if available) and avoid USB hubs or front-panel ports during testing.
