Copilot not activated

For Word for home on Windows, try this sequence:

1. Check where Copilot appears now. Copilot may no longer be a fixed Home ribbon button. In Word, open a document and look for the Copilot Dynamic Action Button in the lower-right corner of the document.
2. Refresh the license. In Word, go to File > Account > Update License. Then close and restart all Microsoft 365 apps so the refresh can take effect.
3. Make sure Word is fully updated. Go to File > Account and use Update Options to install the latest build.
4. Check privacy settings required for Copilot. In Word, go to File > Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings. Confirm both are turned on:
   • Experiences that analyze your content
   • All connected experiences
5. If Copilot still does not appear, verify the account in use. Copilot can fail if Word is signed in with an account that does not have Copilot access. If needed, sign out and sign back in with the correct Microsoft account.
6. If using Word on the web, enable third-party cookies. License validation for Copilot in web apps requires third-party cookies. In Microsoft Edge: Settings and More > Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data > set Block third-party cookies to Off.
7. If the file is stored in a third-party location, move or copy it to OneDrive or SharePoint before using Copilot.

For home subscriptions, Edit with Copilot is still rolling out. In the meantime:

• In Word for the web, open a document and turn on Frontier features through File > Options > Copilot Settings.
• In Word for Windows, access requires joining the Microsoft 365 Insider program and selecting the Beta Channel.
