I have a home user account and a separate business account and need to know how to combine them and pay one subscription fee. It would be helpful to speak to a support person live or chat.

You make it so difficult and incredibly frustrating to resolve simple issues by not having live support! Your AI is not solving our issues.

Hi Lola,

Good day, and thank you for the clear description of your concern.

At this time, Microsoft does not support merging a Microsoft 365 Personal account into a single Microsoft 365 Business account due to security, licensing, and data integrity constraints.

  • Personal (MSA): Managed by Microsoft Account for consumer services.
  • Work/School (Azure AD): Managed by your organization for Microsoft 365 Business.

For reference: Combining Microsoft accounts - Microsoft Support

undefined However, you can set up a Microsoft 365 Business subscription and manually move data from your personal accounts into the business environment.

Visit Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing to choose a plan that fits your needs.

After purchase, go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to set up your business tenant and user account(s).

Add both accounts to Outlook and OneDrive on your laptop. You can sign into both your personal and business accounts in the Outlook and OneDrive apps for Windows. This allows you to access and manually migrate your data between them.

For detailed guidance, you may find this official article helpful: Move your data to a Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription

Please note: Licenses from Microsoft 365 Personal cannot be transferred to Business accounts; a new license purchase is required.

Additionally, you can reach our live support team by submitting a ticket directly through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

A support ticket can be created via the following link: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

If you’re unable to access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support directly. You can reach them by phone using the contact numbers listed here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

It depends what you use your home user account for.

Here is how I deal with it.

I do have a home user account, but its only for email, maintained as a hotmail.com account (yours might be a outlook.com account). I do not pay subscription on that. I use that for really public websites where I leave an email address.

For more private personal stuff, I have a Microsoft365 Business basic personal account. I registered a personal domain name (example me @ johnmark.com) and run it off a Microsoft365 Business subscription. I like having the business level security, features and controls on my personal private stuff.

I also have a Microsoft365 Business work account. (eg johnmark @contoso.com)

Technically you can run both out of the same subscription by using 2 licenses. One license to host me @johnmark.com and one license to host johnmark @contoso.com.

In that way you have consolidated both into one. Whether your accountant would be ok with that is another matter.

    Cheers

A home Microsoft account and a Microsoft 365 work or school account cannot be merged into one account or one shared subscription.

    Supported options:

    1. Keep them separate and use them side by side.
      • Personal Microsoft accounts and Microsoft 365 work or school accounts can be used side by side.
      • In some cases, having both a business plan and a personal plan is the right approach if personal files and business data need to stay separate.
    2. If the goal is to reduce duplicate personal subscriptions, choose which personal account to keep and cancel the other subscription.
      • Microsoft does not support merging two personal accounts into one.
      • Subscriptions are managed separately.
    3. If moving from personal to business, set up the business subscription and manually move data into the business environment.
      • Licenses from Microsoft 365 Personal cannot be transferred to Business accounts.

    For live help:

    1. Go to Contact Microsoft Support and enter the problem.
    2. Select Get Help.
    3. If more help is needed, select Contact Support to reach the best support option.
    4. For sign-in problems, use the Sign-in helper or Start sign-in helper.

    Important:

    • Support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or access and change account details.
    • If the issue is specifically about account access, the sign-in helper is the supported path.
