Hi Team,

I’m currently exploring multilingual communication options for our community in Viva Engage and would like to learn more about the platform's translation capabilities.

Could you please advise who is responsible for the administration of Viva Engage within our organization? Specifically, I’m interested in understanding whether the multi-language posting feature is available in our tenant and, if not, whether it can be enabled.

The feature would help us deliver learning and training communications to a broader audience by allowing users to view posts in their preferred language.

Thank you in advance for your guidance and support.

Best regards, [Moderator note: Personally Identifiable Information removed]

    Hi @Stojkovic Ognjanovic, Bojana

The administration of Viva Engage is typically handled by your Microsoft 365 Global Administrators, Viva Engage Administrators, Corporate Communicators, Answers admin, Network admin, or Verified admin depending on how your organization manages the platform.

    Regarding multilingual capabilities:

    • Message translation can be enabled by a Viva Engage administrator in the network settings. When enabled, users can translate posts into their preferred language using Microsoft Translator. This setting is disabled by default and must be enabled by an administrator.
    • Multi-language posts are a separate feature that allows authors to create and publish manually curated versions of the same post in multiple languages. Readers automatically see the version that matches their language preference. This capability is available for Viva Engage Premium licensed users.

The multi-language posting feature is available only to Viva Engage Premium license holders. It supports manual multi-language post creation, with up to 10 language translations for a single discussion post. Readers can then view the post in their preferred language, and they can also use Show translations to switch to another published translation.

    To create a multi-language post:

    1. Start a new post in a community or storyline.
    2. Select Add translation in the post authoring window.
    3. If needed, adjust the default language.
    4. Use Add translation language to choose supported languages.
    5. Select Add.
    6. Repeat as needed, up to 10 translations.
    7. Compose content for each translation and add language-specific media if needed.
    8. Select Post.

Users can change their Viva Engage language setting:

    • In the Teams app: Settings > Preferences > Language
    • In Viva Engage web: Settings > Edit Settings > Preferences

For administration responsibility, the documented admin roles for tenant-level Viva Engage settings include Engage admin, network admin, or verified admin. Tenant settings also include a Language setting for system messages, and conversation settings include Message translation, which is off by default and can be enabled by a network admin. That setting allows users to translate messages into the network’s default language and requires the network admin to accept the Microsoft translation terms and services.

Whether multi-language posting is available in a specific tenant depends on whether eligible users have the required Viva Engage Premium licensing. The provided documentation does not describe a separate tenant switch to enable multi-language posting beyond the licensing requirement.
