Editor Won't Let me Edit

Why won't Editor let me edit other errors while Editor is running?

That is, if I notice another error other than the one currently tagged by Editor, I have to click like 3 times to get Editor to release me and let me edit.

There are certainly many steps to move between an ongoing spellcheck and editing in the document itself. This is time-consuming, and other panes work the same (the Find / Navigation pane, for example), unfortunately.
