Sorting a picture in excel

The treasury department of my company, sends a list of ACH accounts that we have with various vendors. The problem is, the list is not an excel spreadsheet. It is just a screenshot of the information taken from our bank's website. Is it possible to sort that information as if it were a live spreadsheet?

Hi Susan,

For your situation, you can try using Excel’s Data from Picture feature, as it can take table data from a screen capture or image file and insert it into editable Excel cells.

Open Excel and go to the Data tab > choose From Picture > select Picture From File/Picture From Clipboard (if you copied the screenshot) to input that screenshot into Excel.
Excel will analyze the image and show a preview. Please review any uncertain values carefully before clicking Insert Data.
Once inserted, the information becomes normal worksheet data, and then you can use Sort, Filter, Format as Table, remove duplicates, search vendor names, etc.

Hi Hendrix. I saved the screenshot to my clipboard, but when I go to Data>From Picture, it won't let me select that option. It's grayed out.

Thank you for your prompt update.

If that's the case, this time let's try saving the Picture as a saved file in Desktop or Download then using Picture From File instead to see if it works

Well, I'm closer, but no success just yet. I've got headers showing, but the information that should be under each header isn't aligned correctly so it's not sorting all as it should.

Hi Susan,

If Excel recognized the headers but did not correctly detect the row and column boundaries, I suggest you improve the screenshot before importing to see if it works:

Capture only the data table

Make sure the screenshot is straight, not angled.

Avoid overlapping UI, filters, scroll bars, pop-ups, or frozen headers.

If the table is wide, take two narrower screenshots rather than one compressed screenshot.

If possible, switch to a light theme with dark text

In the worst scenario that the Data from Picture feature didn't work as expected to extract the data, I'm sorry to say that there would be no feasible option in the current Excel functionality. I think the best choice in that situation is to contact your treasury department and ask for an exported spreadsheet or else you need to input the data manually.
