I had made updates to a ppt last Fri, 14-Aug, which have not saved, even though Auto-save was on. The version saved was last Wed, 12-Aug. I clearly remember making many changes to the file and saving and then sharing the link over email. When I opened the laptop after the weekend, it was showing a pop up that file not uploaded to one drive. But my laptop underwent a forced restart due to company updates soon after. After the restart I cannot find any of the changes which I made. The last saved version is of 12-Aug. The file is not present in the recovered folder too. Please help.

    Hi Rath

Thank you for sharing the details of what happened.

As this is a user-to-user community forum, I do not have the ability to directly access or modify your account or service. However, I can provide guidance, recommend next steps, share applicable resources, and direct you to the appropriate support channels so the issue can be investigated further.

Based on what you described, especially the message indicating that the file was not uploaded to OneDrive, it is possible that the changes made on Friday, 14-Aug were saved locally or were pending upload, but were not successfully synced to OneDrive before the laptop was restarted due to company updates. Although AutoSave was enabled, the changes still need to be successfully uploaded to OneDrive or SharePoint to appear in the cloud version history.

You can try the following steps to check if the updated version can still be recovered:

1/ Check OneDrive or SharePoint Version History

    2/ Check PowerPoint recovery options

    3/ Check the AutoRecover folder

    • Check the following location on the laptop:  C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\PowerPoint
    • User's image

4/ Search for local or temporary copies

    • Search the device for similar PowerPoint or temporary files, such as:  *.pptx  *.ppt  *.tmp  ~$*.pptx
    • User's image

    5/ Check OneDrive sync status

    • Click the OneDrive cloud icon in the system tray.
    • Check whether there are any sync errors, paused sync status, or pending uploads.
    • Also check whether any conflict copy of the file was created.
    • Since the file link was shared by email, please open the sent email and confirm that the link points to the same file you were editing.

If the version from 14-Aug is still not found after these checks, please reach out to your organization’s IT team for further assistance. They may be able to check OneDrive or SharePoint admin version history, recycle bins, sync logs, local Office or OneDrive cache, and any available endpoint backup or restore points.

I hope this information is helpful. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.
