How can I recover emails from a corrupted Outlook PST file when Outlook cannot open it?

I have an old PST file from Outlook that I need to access because it contains some important emails. However, when I try to open or import the file, Outlook gives an error and does not load the mailbox data. I’m not sure what caused the PST to become corrupted, but I would like to recover the emails and folders stored in it if possible. I don’t want to keep trying different repair methods on the original file because I’m worried about making the situation worse or losing more data. What options are available to safely recover the contents of a corrupted PST file when Outlook is unable to open it?

If the steps provided by AI did not work, right-click the folder where the PST was stored > Properties > Previous Versions > Restore an earlier copy to a different folder.

If the PST was stored in OneDrive, check its Version history and download an earlier version without replacing the original.
