I graduated in 2024 from University. Microsoft word is connected to that school account and I am unable to login to word from my laptop. Disconnect that school account so that I may continue to use Microsoft Word.

Dear Victoria

As a forum moderator, I am not able to access your device or make changes to it. My role here is limited to providing general guidance and steps you can apply from your side. To remove the school account from your laptop, please try the following:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Accounts > Access work or school.
  3. Select your university account and choose Disconnect, then confirm.
  4. Press Windows key and enter Credential Manager
  5. Go to Windows Credentials
  6. Find and remove anything related to Microsoft 365, Office, or Teams. This will delete the old authentication token.
  7. Restart your computer.

Once restarted, open Word, select Sign in, and use the personal Microsoft account linked to your Microsoft 365 subscription. If you already have a personal subscription, you can confirm it at account.microsoft.com/services.

One important point: removing the university account does not transfer its Word licence to your personal account. If Word was licensed through your university, that licence would have ended when you graduated. In that case you would need to either purchase Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, or use Word for the web free at office.com.

I hope this helps. Looking forward to your reply.
