My laptop is relatively new, Acer swift neo. I require heavy use of the laptop as pdf reader and research paper preparation. Today it randomly discharged from 88% (charged 21 hr ago) to 1% after I opened the laptop (it was shut down).

Thanks for the response! @John Jefferson Doyon yes indeed, I just closed the lid , but that was supposed to turn the device into sleep mode. 2.yes the usb device which connects to my wireless mouse was connected. 3.it has happened only once, no such problems as of now regarding the power usage or power drain, even in sleep mode. windows version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.9168).

Thanks for the details.

Since the laptop was in Sleep rather than fully shut down, the battery can continue to drain. It may also wake briefly in the background, and the connected USB mouse receiver can contribute to wake activity.

Because this happened only once and the battery is behaving normally now, I would monitor it for the moment.

If you want to avoid this during long periods when the laptop is not being used, use Hibernate or Shut down instead of Sleep.

If the sudden battery drain happens again, run: powercfg /sleepstudy

That report can help identify what was using power while the laptop was sleeping.

For now, there is no clear sign of a battery hardware problem based on a single occurrence.
