A simple way to use Microsoft Word is:
- Open Word.
- Press the Windows logo key, type Word, and press Enter.
- Start a document.
- Select Blank document to start from scratch, or choose a template.
- Type text.
- Click in the page and start typing.
- The status bar at the bottom shows the page number and word count.
- Format text.
- Select the text.
- On the Home tab, use options like Bold, Italic, Bullets, and Numbering.
- Add items.
- Go to the Insert tab to add pictures, shapes, or other media.
- Save work.
- Word can automatically save content as work continues.
- To manually save changes, press Ctrl+S.
- Open a recent document.
- In Word, recent files can be opened from the recent documents list.
- Use voice typing.
- On the Home tab, select Dictate and start speaking.
- A red recording icon shows that Dictate is listening.
If using a screen reader, Word also supports keyboard actions such as:
- Ctrl+A to select all text
- Ctrl+H to find and replace text
