Adding Copilot App to Navigation Menu

My company just did a migration which included all Microsoft 365 applications. I have a certificate for MS Copilot and my Teams application is displaying Copilot as an option in the Chat, but not on my Navigation menu. I attempted to add this option myself, but Copilot is not showing as an available option when searching with the three dots or in the Store. Are there additional steps I can take for self-service troubleshooting or do I need to contact my IT Admin for assistance with this issue?

Yes—there are a few self-service checks, but this can also require an admin-controlled setting.

    1. Check whether Copilot Chat is already pinned by default behavior in the current app experience. Copilot Chat is pinned by default for most eligible users in Microsoft 365 apps, Teams, and Outlook. However, if the organization chose Do not pin Copilot Chat in Microsoft 365 apps, it won’t appear by default in Teams and Outlook, and users must add it themselves from the app store.
    2. Wait for policy propagation if the migration was recent. Changes to Copilot Chat pinning settings can take up to 48 hours to go into effect.
    3. Confirm account eligibility. Only users who authenticate with a Microsoft Entra account can have Copilot Chat pinned to the navigation bar.
    4. Check whether the app is available but blocked by admin policy. Admins manage Copilot app availability from Integrated Apps in the Microsoft 365 admin center. If Copilot was restricted to specific users or groups, it might not appear in search or the store for the account.
    5. If Copilot is missing from Microsoft 365 apps generally, refresh the license. In a Microsoft 365 app, go to File > Account > Update License, then close and restart all Microsoft 365 apps.
    6. If Copilot is still missing in desktop Microsoft 365 apps, verify update channel and privacy settings.
      • Copilot features in Microsoft 365 apps aren’t available on Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel; they require Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel.
      • In File > Account > Manage Settings under Account Privacy, make sure Experiences that analyze your content and All connected experiences are turned on. If the device is organization-managed, these settings can be controlled by IT.

If Copilot appears in Teams chat but not in the navigation menu, and it also doesn’t appear in the three-dot menu or Store, the most likely cause is that the pinning or app availability is being controlled by the organization. In that case, contact the IT admin and ask them to verify:

    • Copilot app availability in Microsoft 365 admin center > Integrated Apps
    • Whether the tenant is set to Do not pin Copilot Chat in Microsoft 365 apps
    • Whether the account is included in any targeted user/group policy for Copilot access
