How to disable automatic textbox from doubleclick in Powerpoint

I truly understand your concern, as I have the same concern as you do.

This is truly a new PowerPoint for Windows behavior: double-clicking an empty area of the slide or pasteboard now inserts a text box. This new feature began rolling out to beta users in mid-July 2026, and now it seems to be available for all users.

After my experience and investigation into Microsoft's official documentation, as of now, I’m not aware of a PowerPoint setting to disable it. There is only an official article, Add text to a slide | Microsoft Support, that documents the normal Insert > Text Box workflow, but it does not mention a toggle for disabling double-click-to-create-text-box behavior.

I understand this isn’t the outcome you were hoping for. As a forum user, I don’t have visibility into internal design/structure or the ability to modify how the product behaves. I can only help confirm how the feature behaves and ensure you have clear information.
