Word for iPad broken features with every damn update and I’m SICK of it

There are always bugs in Word for iPad (which I use with my Apple Magic Keyboard). From disappearing cursor issues to crashes. Today’s update brings two new ones I desperately need fixed.

The first involves pasted pictures into a document. After I paste a pic and resize it, I typically press PICTURE > WRAP TEXT > IN LINE WITH TEXT to format it (same as I’ve done a million times). Only now I cannot select “In line with text” as an option. It shows. I can click on other options like Square and Tight… but not the one I actually need.

The second (today) involves the cut feature. When I press CMD+X… the app just crashes. WTF am I supposed to do with this broken functionality? I pay for this and use it all day for writing work as my primary device and these broken features are untenable and unacceptable. There are already issues with the cursor disappearing and I’m sick of this shit.

PLEASE ADVISE AND THANK YOU!

    Hello Joe Harris

I understand why you are frustrated, especially when Word for iPad is your primary writing tool and these essential functions worked before the latest update.

Your screenshot shows that In Line with Text is available in the Wrap Text menu, but Word remains on Square and does not apply the selected option. The fact that Command+X now consistently crashes Word may also indicate a problem introduced by the recent app update.

For now, please try the following workarounds:

    1. Test both problems in a new blank document. This will help determine whether the behavior affects Word generally or only the current document.
    2. Instead of Command+X, try selecting the content and using Cut from the on-screen editing menu. Alternatively, use Command+C, paste the content in the new location, and then delete the original.
    3. For the picture, open the document in Word for the web or Word on a PC or Mac, set the picture to In Line with Text, save the document, and then reopen it on the iPad.
    4. Restart the iPad and confirm that both iPadOS and Word are fully updated. If the problem continues, make sure your documents are safely synchronized to OneDrive or another location before deleting and reinstalling Word.

Because the problems began after an update, please also report both behaviors through Word’s in-app feedback option and include the Word version, iPad model, iPadOS version, the screenshot, and the exact steps that cause the crash. This sends the technical details directly to the Word product team.

Could you also confirm the installed Word version and iPadOS version, and whether Command+X crashes Word in every document, including a new blank document? This information will help separate an app-wide regression from a document-specific issue.

I hope one of the workarounds lets you continue working while the underlying behavior is investigated.

Feel free reply back to this post if you need further assistance, I'll be happy to help.
