I have just updated to Microsoft Professional Plus. I have lost all access to all of my Publisher .pub files. How can I open them?

    Hello Peter Sandry,

Based on the Office version currently installed on your device, Microsoft Publisher is not included with Office Professional Plus 2024 (Pro Plus / LTSC). This version includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and Access on Windows, but it does not include Publisher. You can find this information in the following Microsoft article: Office 2024 and Office LTSC 2024 FAQ | Microsoft Support

If you still need to access Publisher and your existing .pub files, you may consider returning to a previous Office version that includes Publisher, provided that your organization has the appropriate license and installation media. If this is a company-managed device, I recommend checking with your IT administrator before changing the installed Office version, as the installation and licensing may managed by your organization.

However, please be aware that Microsoft Publisher will reach end of life in October 2026. Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer be able to access Publisher after October 1, 2026, while support for perpetual versions of Publisher will end on October 13, 2026.

For this reason, returning to a previous Office version should be considered a temporary solution for accessing existing Publisher files. Where possible, I recommend beginning the transition to supported alternatives such as Word or PowerPoint, depending on the type of publication you need to create. Microsoft recommends these applications for common Publisher scenarios such as flyers, brochures, business cards, newsletters, labels, calendars, and other publication materials: Microsoft Publisher will no longer be supported after October 2026 | Microsoft Support

I hope this clarifies why Publisher is not available in your current Office installation. If you decide to return to a previous Office version, please ensure that your license includes Publisher and consult your IT administrator if the device is managed by your organization.

    Kind regards,
