If Teams keeps opening with an old user ID, use the correct account type and then sign out of the old one.

1. Check whether Teams signed in with a personal Microsoft account instead of a work or school account.
   • Signs this happened include missing work items such as assignments, meeting notes, recordings, or the work/school calendar.
   • In that case, add and sign in with the work or school account from within Teams.
2. If the computer is domain-joined, Teams can automatically use the domain-joined Windows profile.
   • To switch accounts, sign out of Teams and manually sign in with the other account.
   • If Teams is restarted after sign-out, it can automatically sign back in with the domain-joined account again.
3. If the old user name is being prefilled on a domain-joined PC, an admin can turn off that prefill by setting this Windows registry value:
   • Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Teams
   • SkipUpnPrefill = REG_DWORD
   • Value: 0x00000001 (1)
   • Warning: registry changes can affect sign-in behavior. This should be done carefully, preferably by IT.
4. If the old account is no longer valid on Windows, remove the old work account from Windows:
   • Go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
   • If the old organization account is listed, select it and disconnect it.
