Microsoft Designer not adding adjustments to photo when saved

All of a sudden Microsoft Designer is not saving adjusted photo, including cropping. I can use designer and cropping functions, but when I go to save it by copy, or send to Pictures, the original image is sent without adjustments. I went so far as to have Windows 11 downloaded again, but it didn't correct this problem. Any suggestions?

Hello Jhifi

To narrow this down, could you test the same photo directly at Microsoft Designer on the web rather than opening Designer through the Photos app?

Upload the original photo directly to Designer.
Apply one obvious adjustment and crop.
Select Download and open the downloaded file.

If the web download contains the edits, the problem is likely due to the integrated Edit with Designer experience in Photos. If the downloaded file also reverts to the original, please let us know which file format you selected and whether this happens with every image or only certain photos.

That worked, as long as I upload from "Pictures". I could not see where to upload from Download file, where I have images also.

Uploaded from Pictures. Jpg. Result was no change. No cropping. Same as original.

i used microsoft designer on the web. pulled a picture from that app that hadn't worked before. My crop adjustment didn't work on it. Stayed the same.

i also just uploaded a photo from my laptop to microsoft designer on the web. cropped it. saved/downloaded it. opened up the download. No cropping. still original. This is very frustrating. It used to work so well with microsoft photos app. Then, one day, Designer popped up, i made my adjustments, and no changes were saved. Hasn't worked since.

Hi Jhifi

To upload an image from Downloads, select Upload or From this device in Designer. When the File Explorer window opens, choose Downloads from the left-hand navigation pane. If it is not shown, enter %USERPROFILE%\Downloads in the address bar and press Enter.

This confirms that Designer itself is saving the edits correctly, and the issue appears to be with the Designer integration in the Photos app. For now, uploading directly to Designer is the recommended workaround.

I did contact Microsoft Support, who, after advising me downloading Windows 11 again with no change in Designer, told me to come here!

There's nothing much I can do here since there's maybe some changes or issue internally that moderators cannot have an eye on
