Resetting Microsoft Edge Password Manager PIN (not set by me)

I don’t remember ever setting up a Microsoft Edge Password Manager PIN, yet I’m now being asked for one. Resetting the Windows Hello PIN doesn’t solve the issue, and the only option that appears is to delete all passkeys — which I don’t want to do, as it’s extremely frustrating. I did not set up this PIN, and now I’m paying for it. If anyone has a solution to this, please help. Windows Hello PIN is not an option in my case; I’ve already tried it several times.

    Hi Huey Kid Yadidi,

I can understand how frustrating this is, especially when you're being asked for a PIN that you don't recall creating and resetting your Windows Hello PIN has not resolved it.

A couple of quick checks may help identify whether the prompt is coming from Edge itself or from a credential linked to your profile:

    1. Open Edge > Settings > Passwords and check whether Require device password to fill passwords or similar password protection settings are enabled.
    2. Test in an InPrivate window or a new Edge profile to see if the PIN prompt still appears.
    3. Make sure Edge is fully updated (Settings > About Microsoft Edge) and then restart the browser.

If the issue only occurs in your current Edge profile, it may indicate a profile-specific credential or passkey configuration. Before considering the option to remove passkeys, it would be helpful to confirm:

    • Your Edge version and Windows version.
    • Whether the prompt appears when viewing saved passwords, filling passwords, or managing passkeys.
    • Whether your passwords/passkeys are synced with a Microsoft account.

With those details, the community may be able to suggest more targeted steps while helping you avoid unnecessary loss of saved passkeys.
