If the invoice is locked, payment in the portal is typically not available and the next step is to create an Azure billing support request.

For a pay-as-you-go account, past-due charges are normally paid from the Settle balance pane by the account administrator. If the portal instead shows that the invoice is locked or says to contact Azure Support, use the billing support path.

Steps to create the billing support request:

    1. Open the Azure portal.
    2. Go to Help + Support or Help and Support.
    3. Select Create a support request.
    4. Enter or select Billing as the issue type.
    5. Select the affected subscription.
    6. Continue through the support flow until Create a support request is available.
    7. Complete the case details and submit it.

If the support flow keeps looping through suggested articles, continue until the option to return to the support request appears, then proceed with the ticket creation flow.

    Relevant billing details:

    • If the account is pay-as-you-go and the payment method is a credit card, the account administrator can normally settle the outstanding balance in the portal.
    • If multiple subscriptions use the same failed credit card and all are past due, the entire outstanding balance must be paid at once.
    • The card used to settle the balance becomes the new default payment method for subscriptions that used the failed payment method.
    • If payment was already processed but the subscription is still disabled, contact Azure support.

If the lock is on the Microsoft account sign-in itself and the sign-in page does not show Next, the account may be locked due to suspicious activity or a Terms of Use violation. In that case, use the aka.ms/ link shown in the sign-in window and submit the reinstatement form. After submission, a Microsoft Online Safety support agent reviews it and responds by email.
