I had a notebook on classic onedrive that got deleted. the online version still has the notebook but when clicked crashes with this type error message Correlation ID: [Moderator Note: Personal Info Removed]

I can see that you’re having trouble accessing the notebook.

Since it was deleted from the original OneDrive location and the remaining online entry crashes when selected, the entry may be an outdated link rather than an accessible copy of the notebook.

Please check the OneDrive Recycle bin while signed in with the account that originally stored the notebook. If the notebook or its folder is available, restore it and then try opening it again from OneDrive.

You can also open the OneNote desktop app and check File > Info > Open Backups to see whether a local backup of the notebook is available. If you find one, copy the recovered sections into a new notebook before syncing.

I thought I had. The "notebook" is a phantom entry I deleted some time ago and the name will not disappear in the online OneNote directory. I do not want this listed and it does not exist. Why is there no delete function?

Since the notebook no longer exists in OneDrive, the entry you see is most likely an outdated reference in OneNote’s online notebook list rather than an actual notebook that can be deleted.

Another method is to open the OneNote desktop app, right-click the notebook’s name, and select Close This Notebook. Unfortunately, OneNote for the web does not provide a separate delete or remove option for an entry when the underlying notebook has already been deleted.

Well I have had Copilot AI try to help and there seems no solution. So surely this should prompt Microsoft to include a delete command into the online OneNote master directory - the absence being a "bug" in the program?

I can understand why you feel that way. If the notebook was deleted long ago, no longer exists anywhere, and still appears in the OneNote notebook list, it is reasonable to expect some way to remove or hide that stale entry.

Since you've already tried the available troubleshooting steps and even Copilot could not identify a solution, the most constructive next step may be to submit feedback requesting a delete/remove option for obsolete notebook entries.

If enough users report the same experience, it can help the product team evaluate whether this functionality should be added or improved.
