If Copilot is grayed out in Word while the account shows 60 AI credits, check these items in order:

    1. Confirm the signed-in account in Word matches the subscription owner account.
      • In Word, go to File > Account and verify the same Microsoft account is signed in.
      • For Microsoft 365 Family, Copilot features in the apps are available only to the subscription owner.
    2. Refresh the license in Word.
      • On Windows: File > Account > Update License.
      • Then close and restart all Microsoft 365 apps.
    3. Make sure Word is fully updated.
      • Copilot requires the latest Microsoft 365 app build.
    4. Check privacy settings that control whether Copilot appears.
      • In Word, go to File > Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings.
      • Turn on:
        • Experiences that analyze your content
        • All connected experiences
    5. If the file is stored in a third-party location, move or copy it to OneDrive or SharePoint.
      • Third-party storage can cause Copilot license validation and related errors.
    6. If using Word on the web, refresh the browser page and allow third-party cookies.
      • Blocked third-party cookies can prevent Copilot from validating the license.
    7. If the button is still missing or inactive in the desktop app, use the web version as a check.
      • Copilot is available in Word on the web for eligible subscribers.

If all of the above are already correct and Copilot is still grayed out, the remaining supported path is to contact Microsoft Support to have the Copilot entitlement checked on the account.
