If this is Word on Windows or Mac signed in with a Microsoft account, turn off Copilot in Word:

  1. Open Word.
  2. Go to File > Options.
  3. Select Copilot.
  4. Clear Enable Copilot.
  5. Select OK.

This disables the Copilot icon and Copilot features in that app.

If the icon is only distracting, it can also be removed from the ribbon, but that does not turn Copilot off.

If the setting is not visible, some reports indicate it appears in version 2501 and later.

    AI answer:

Open Word. Go to File > Options. Select Copilot. Clear Enable Copilot. Select OK.

This is not correct. I am using a desktop Mac computer. The proper way to turn off "COPILOT" is: open the WORD menu, select "Preferences", open the Copilot tool, deselect "Enable Copilot". Unchecking the other boxes won't help.
