A web-based tool in Microsoft 365 that enables users to quickly create surveys, quizzes, polls, and feedback forms.
Microsoft Forms is the better option for a website survey.
An attached Excel workbook or other Office file is not the best way to collect visitor responses. Microsoft Forms is designed for surveys, quizzes, and polls, lets people respond in a web browser or on a mobile device, shows results in real time, and supports exporting responses to Excel for further analysis.
A simple way to create the survey is:
- Go to Microsoft Forms.
- Select New Form.
- Add a title and optional description.
- Select Add new and add questions such as Choice, Text, Rating, or Date.
- If needed, use More question types for Ranking, Likert, File upload, or Net Promoter Score.
- Select Preview to test how the survey looks on computer or mobile.
If the goal is to collect responses from website visitors, Forms is a better fit than asking visitors to open and edit an Excel file. Responses can be collected through the form and then exported to Excel for reporting or cleanup.
Best-practice recommendation:
- Use Microsoft Forms as the front-end survey.
- Use Excel only as the back-end results file for analysis.
- Keep the survey simple for first-time users by using standard question types and testing it in Preview before publishing.
If a reusable template is preferred, forms.office.com also supports starting from a template.
