Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
For Outlook.com, the fastest checks are:
- Open Drafts or Outbox and find the message that is stuck.
- If it has an attachment larger than 25 MB, remove it, then send again. A large attachment can block that message and messages after it.
- Check whether the Inbox is full. If it is, empty Junk Email to free space.
- If sending from Outlook on PC or Mac with an Outlook.com account, use Send/Receive > Send/Receive all folders.
If mail keeps reappearing in Junk or important mail is being handled incorrectly in Outlook.com:
- Go to Settings > Mail > Junk email.
- Review Blocked senders and domains and remove anything that should not be blocked.
- Add trusted senders or domains under Safe senders and domains so they do not go to Junk.
- If a message is in Junk Email but should not be, right-click it and choose Mark as not junk.
- Also check for email forwarding and email rules that may be moving or hiding messages.
If the problem started with large amounts of spam and sending is now blocked, one documented resolution for compromised-account symptoms is to check Outlook.com settings for unexpected Rules and Forwarding, delete any that were not created intentionally, then change the password and enable 2-step verification.
