Can't add Static Web App Custom domain, won't verify, now status stuck on deleting

It's been almost 24 hours and the custom domain is still deleting.

I'm trying to move a web app and associated resources to a client's Azure account. I gave up and tried a different domain name and it won't verify, then won't delete.

I decided to use a different domain altogether with a new SWA, set up a DNS zone in Azure and updated the nameservers accordingly thinking it would be fine if it had control of the DNS. Ha!

Another custom domain that won't verify and now won't delete! What is going on!!!

Open a support ticket in Azure Portal.

Clearly state that:

The custom domain is in Deleting for more than 24 hours on an Azure Static Web App.

Portal, az staticwebapp hostname delete, and direct ARM DELETE calls all report success but the domain remains.

The domain cannot be re-added due to the validation requirement and the existing stuck binding.

Be prepared to prove ownership of the domain if requested (this is standard when Azure manually releases a domain binding).

Ask support to manually remove the custom domain binding from the Static Web App slice/backend so the domain can be added again.

The custom domains still had a status of "Deleting", but retrying the operation succeeded.

I really hope I never have to try and get "support" from Microsoft again!
