Azure Static Web Apps apex custom domain stuck in Deleting after failed validation

Hello,

Our apex domain unitedsupports.com.au is stuck in the Deleting state on the Azure Static Web App unitedsupports-new (East Asia, Free tier) after a failed custom-domain validation.

The initial portal add was intended to use TXT validation, but the custom-domain resource was created using CNAME validation and failed with:

“An unknown error has occurred while adding your custom domain. Please try again later.”

The domain has remained stuck since 12 August 2026. We have tried:

  • Deleting it in the Azure portal
  • az staticwebapp hostname delete
  • Direct ARM DELETE requests using supported API versions
  • Repeating the delete after Azure’s documented propagation window

The delete operations return 202 Accepted, but the resource never leaves Deleting. The existing subdomain new.unitedsupports.com.au remains Ready.

This is a zero-downtime migration, so the apex DNS record intentionally remains pointed at the current production website until Azure validates the replacement hostname and certificate. Removing the live A record is not an acceptable workaround.

Could the Static Web Apps product team please clear the stuck backend custom-domain binding so we can re-add the apex domain using dns-txt-token validation?

I can provide the subscription ID, resource ID, operation IDs and correlation IDs privately if required.

Thank you.
