Outlook indicated I ran out of storage. I cleaned and deleted, and ran out again in a week. I purchased additional storage, but it never showed up in Outlook, and I am AGAIN shown as out of storage. Any suggestions? Also, is there any way to increase my storage limits? I have over a Terabyte of satorage am an only allowed a few hundred megabytes for Outlook? How can I change this...it is on MY computer so I should not need to purchase storage at all!!

HELP???

For Outlook.com, local disk space on the computer does not increase the mailbox limit. Outlook.com storage is cloud-based and tied to the Microsoft account, not the PC’s hard drive.

Supported limits for Outlook.com are:

  • Free Outlook.com accounts: 15 GB of email storage
  • Microsoft 365 subscribers: 100 GB mailbox limit
  • Consumer Outlook.com mailbox storage is capped at 100 GB

If additional storage was purchased and it is not showing yet:

  1. Go to Manage storage, refresh the page, and check whether the added storage appears.
  2. Wait up to 24 hours for the storage change to show.
  3. If the quota still has not updated after 24 hours, try unlinking and relinking OneDrive.

If Outlook.com still says storage is full, check both mailbox storage and Microsoft cloud storage:

  • A "Microsoft Unified Storage is full" message means cloud storage is over quota.
  • When Microsoft cloud storage is over quota, Outlook.com email can stop sending and receiving even if the email mailbox itself is not full.
  • If only email storage is over quota, Outlook.com also stops sending and receiving mail.

To free space in Outlook.com:

  1. Open Settings and search for Storage.
  2. On Settings > Storage, review the folder breakdown.
  3. Permanently delete items, or delete items older than 3, 6, or 12 months from the listed folders.

To increase Outlook.com storage:

  • If using a free account, upgrading to a Microsoft 365 subscription increases the mailbox to 100 GB.
  • If already on Microsoft 365, the Outlook.com consumer mailbox cannot be increased beyond 100 GB. To get back under quota, space must be freed up.

If the purchased storage still does not appear after waiting, refreshing, and relinking OneDrive, use Outlook.com support from within Outlook.com by selecting Help on the menu bar, entering the issue, and then choosing Still need help? if self-help does not resolve it.
