Critical Microsoft 365/Copilot limitation — legal and finance systems require single contract files

Microsoft 365/Copilot currently appears unable to support our large legal, patent, and contract documents as one complete editable Word file within the available working limits.

This is a critical blocker. Financial systems, legal systems, contract repositories, procurement portals, audit systems, and archive systems are generally designed to accept one contract file when prompted, not fractional contract files. Our documentation references the agreement as a single document, and our systems archive and update it as a single legal record.

Splitting a contract into multiple Word files is not an acceptable permanent workaround because it creates risk around:

• contract completeness;
• operative version control;
• audit trail;
• signatures and exhibits;
• defined terms and cross-references;
• legal and financial system upload requirements;
• archive integrity;
• future amendments and updates;
• evidentiary reliability.

This issue affects not only our documents, but potentially Microsoft’s own enterprise agreements, licensing documents, technical exhibits, compliance documents, financial contracts, and legal archives.

We need a prompt written answer from Microsoft confirming one of the following:

1. Microsoft 365/Copilot has a supported workflow for large legal, financial, patent, and contract Word documents that must remain one complete authoritative file; or
2. Microsoft 365/Copilot currently cannot support this use case, and users should rely on legacy/local Office workflows for these documents; or
3. Microsoft has an escalation path, roadmap, or enterprise capability for Copilot to process large offline/local single-file Word documents without requiring permanent split-file workflows.

This is not a convenience issue. It determines whether Microsoft 365/Copilot can be used for legal and financial documentation where a single authoritative contract file is required by business systems and recordkeeping standards.

Please escalate urgently and provide a supported workflow or limitation statement.

My practical recommendation is: do not archive or submit split contract files as the legal record. Use the split parts only as temporary editing extracts if absolutely necessary, then return everything to a single master Word document before finance upload, legal review, signature, amendment, or archive.
