If age-restricted downloads are blocked, the account is likely still being treated as a child account or still has Family Safety restrictions applied.
Try these checks in order:
- Check whether the account is in a family group
- Go to the Microsoft family page and sign in.
- If a family group appears, the account may still be managed there.
- If the account is listed under a family, restrictions can continue to apply.
- Verify the birth date on the Microsoft account
- In the Microsoft account settings, check the birth date.
- If the birth date is wrong and makes the account appear underage, age-based restrictions will apply.
- If the account was created as a child account, changing the date later may not immediately remove all restrictions.
- If Family Safety restrictions are being enforced on the PC, run a safety refresh
- If the account is still in a family group, remove the restrictions or remove the account from the family group
- Sign in to the family site.
- Select the member.
- For child accounts, select Remove consent if shown.
- Then select Remove from family group.
- If the account is not in a family group but restrictions still appear
- This can happen if the device was previously configured under a Family group.
- Run the safety refresh command above, then restart.
If the account was originally created as a child account, the context also indicates that some users must have an adult account manage the child account’s settings, and in some cases restrictions cannot be self-removed until the account reaches legal adult age for the region.
