    Try these in order:

    1. Check whether the file is blocked by Windows/Microsoft 365
      • Open File Explorer.
      • Find the PowerPoint file.
      • Right-click it > Properties.
      • If there is an Unblock button or checkbox near the bottom, select Unblock > Apply > OK.
      • Then right-click the file and choose Open again.
    2. Update Office
      • Open any Office app that still works.
      • Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
      • Let the update finish, then try opening the presentation again.
      • This is especially relevant if PowerPoint closes unexpectedly or shows file-open errors.
    3. If PowerPoint offers to repair the presentation, avoid using Update Links afterward
      • There is a known issue in PowerPoint 2010 and 2013 where repairing some presentations can cause PowerPoint to crash or restart, especially with linked OLE objects or linked pictures.
    4. If the problem is only with one presentation, treat it as file corruption
      • Try opening another copy of the file if one exists.
      • If the file was received by email or copied from external media, get a fresh copy and try again.
      • If PowerPoint shows messages like “PowerPoint could not open the file” or “No text converter”, use the repair guidance in Open a document after a file corruption.
    5. If the file is very old, check its format
      • PowerPoint 2007 and later cannot open presentations saved as PowerPoint 95 files.
      • That file must be opened in PowerPoint 2003/2002/2000/97 and then saved as Presentation (*.ppt) using Save As.
    6. If PowerPoint itself is unstable, run Office updates first
      • For "stopped working" errors when starting Office apps, Microsoft recommends updating Office before other troubleshooting.

If the file still will not open after unblocking and updating, the most likely causes are file corruption or a linked-content repair crash.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    1. Does the error occur when opening all your saved PowerPoint presentations, or only with a particular file?
    2. Are the files saved locally on your computer, or are they stored in OneDrive?
    3. Could you share a screenshot of the error message here for reference?

Meanwhile, could you please check if you can open the PPT files normally in safe mode?

    Click Windows + R, type

    powerpnt /safe

    Click Ok.

Open the saved files and see if you are getting the same error.
