Since yesterday, the deadkeys for any marks like ` ~ ' " stopped working. It acts as if I've pressed the key twice so two of the same character appear at once, instead of nothing happening until I press another key. I can't put any accents on letters anymore and it's just very annoying overall. How do I fix this? I've already tried everything in the keyboard settings and updating/reinstalling the keyboard driver. Upon restarting the computer it works properly for, like, a minute, and then it goes right back to being broken. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Go into the keyboard settings and switch your keyboard form the US English International keyboard to just the US English keyboard, restart (not shut down) your PC and then go back into settings and set the keyboard language back to US English International keyboard.

If that does not resolve the problem:
Open Command Prompt, then paste in this command and press Enter:
msdt.exe -id KeyboardDiagnostic
Run that Keyboard Troubleshooter to see if that can solve the problem.
Thanks for replying! The first option didn''t work, it was automatically back to US International upon restart. And the keyboard diagnostic said nothing is wrong.
That is strange if that did not resolve the problem, if this problem only started to occur yesterday, what happened on your PC, was there an update installed that may be causing the keyboard problem.
Nothing happened yesterday to my knowledge to make it stop working. No new updates have been installed in almost a month, I didn''t change any of the keyboard settings or download anything weird. It just stopped working from one second to the next.
In that case, the best option will be to perform an in-place repair with the Windows 10 ISO.Please ensure you download the ISO in the same language as you use for the Windows UI, follow the steps, this is then not like re-installing Windows, it is just like an update and your personal files, settings and installed software will not be affected.

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), then choose ISO, not USB
When the ISO file completes downloading
Disconnect from the Internet
Disconnect all external devices with the exception of a mouse or keyboard.
Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed
Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the Install option.
Very Important - ensure you select the option to keep your files and apps.
Thank you. I've not run the program yet but the keyboard started working properly again when the internet was disconnected, then started acting weird again when reconnected. Not sure what to do with that but maybe it's important?
That is very strange, I have never heard of that occurring previously.
Check your location settings in the Settings app to ensure they are set correctly when you connect to the Internet.
My region settings are correct, I have my location services turned off.
Okay, then I think performing the in-place repair with the Windows ISO is the best option to resolve this problem.
That indicates most likely this is not caused by Windows system corruption, is the problem still occurring only when your system is connected to the Internet.
As far as I can tell yeah. It's fixed as soon as the internet is disconnected, then starts acting up again after a few minutes when connected.
This is very strange, do you have any utility like PowerToys installed that may be affecting the keyboard layout.

Go to the support page for your PC on the manufacturers website, then form there, download and reinstall (not update) the version of Chipset drivers and Network drivers they provide, then restart (not shut down) your PC to apply the change.

Honestly, I do not know why this is happening, you have reinstalled the Keyboard drivers, troubleshoot the keyboard, reinstalled Windows, changed the keyboard layout and checked the location settings, and finally reinstalled the chipset and Network drivers and none of those processes have resolved the problem.
If you connect another external keyboard to your system is the same problem occurring on that keyboard.
All correct! I really tried everything, but the probleem keeps coming back. I have a laptop, it does this with the built-in keyboard as well as any others (wired or wireless) that I connected.
If this problem is occurring on the laptop internal keyboard and also on an external keyboard, then this is definitely a software problem, not hardware, most likely some incompatibility with some software installed on your laptop that may have updated in the background.
I looked around but I truly have no idea what it could be then. :/ thank you so much for all your help, I really appreciate it!

I have the same issue since about a week ago (Windows 11). I have also tried removing and re-adding US int''l dead keys and re-adding it. It fixes the issue for a short time and then it stops working again. The keyboard troubleshooter didn''t find anything. Really annoying :/
