If WebView2 says it is already installed, the next useful step is to repair Microsoft Edge, because WebView2 uses Microsoft Edge (Chromium) as the rendering engine.

    1. Close Microsoft Edge.
    2. Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    3. Select Microsoft Edge and then select Modify.
    4. If prompted, select Yes.
    5. Make sure the device is connected to the internet, then select Repair.

This repair should not affect browser data or settings.

If Edge is not working correctly, also try these steps:

    1. Restart the computer.
    2. In Edge, clear cached data:
      • Settings and more > History > Open history page > Delete browsing data
      • Choose All time
      • Select Browsing history and Cached images and files
      • Select Clear now
    3. Verify any third-party security software is up to date.

If the issue is specifically that WebView2 was removed and then came back, that behavior is expected in some cases. WebView2 is preinstalled on Windows 11, installed on most Windows 10 devices, and many apps check for it and reinstall it when the app is installed or launched.
