I have the same problem trying to access Microsoft 365 Excel file.. All weekend I got error code 0x0, now I timeout when I try to logon. I can not speak to a person at Microsoft and the AI is USELESS. I am using Monterey 12.7.6 and the Microsoft updated tells me all my apps are up to date. I have tried all the troubleshooting tips, nothing works, I can not access my files.

If your version of MacOS is Monterey, then the error you are seeing is caused by an update on the 13th of July, many people are seeing the exact same 0x0 error, if you are unable to upgrade your MacOS to a newer compatible version, your Office apps will go into Read Only mode or cannot be installed, on the link below the full details on that update are provided.

The last version of Office that will work on MacOS Monterey is 16.88, that is available on the long table on this link to all the downloadable versions from the Microsoft servers, if you have any previous version of Office installed on your Mac, that needs to be uninstalled first.

For macOS Monterey 12.7.6, the supported fix for error 0x0 / License not found is to make sure Office is updated while running macOS 12 or later. Since Microsoft AutoUpdate says the apps are current and the issue still persists, the next supported path from the provided cases is to remove and reinstall Office, making sure the install source matches the purchase source.

    Recommended path:

    1. Confirm macOS version Monterey 12.7.6 meets the documented minimum of macOS 12 or higher.
    2. Close all Office apps Quit Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and OneNote.
    3. If Office was installed from microsoft.com Open Finder > Applications > Microsoft AutoUpdate and install all available updates.
      • If Microsoft AutoUpdate is not visible there, check: /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/
      • After updates complete, launch the Office app again and test.
    4. If Office was installed from the Mac App Store Open the App Store > Updates, then update the Microsoft apps there.
    5. If updates report current but 0x0 or sign-in timeout continues Uninstall and reinstall Office.
      • If the subscription was purchased through the Apple App Store, reinstall from the App Store.
      • If the subscription was purchased directly from Microsoft, sign in at https://www.office.com, then use Install apps to download and reinstall the desktop apps.
    6. Important check after reinstall The install source must match the purchase source. A mismatch between App Store install and Microsoft-direct subscription can prevent activation.
    7. Monterey-specific note from a matching case A reported Monterey 12.7.6 case with Office 16.77/16.78 was resolved after updating Office to 16.89.1 (24091630) and then activating Microsoft 365.

If the apps still open only in read-only mode or continue to time out after reinstall, the supported information available here does not provide a further self-service fix beyond update/reinstall and matching the install source.
