If the sponsorship shows Active with remaining credit, but charges were billed instead of offset by credits, the documented next step is to open a support request in the Azure portal.
Use this path:
- Sign in to the Azure portal.
- Go to Help + Support.
- Submit a billing support ticket for the charged subscription.
- Include that the sponsorship balance shows 2400 USD remaining, 0 USD used, and that one active subscription shows Subscription Cost: $1020.58 charged to the account instead of consuming credits.
Also verify that the subscription using the charges is actually under the billing account or billing profile where the credits are allocated:
- In the Azure portal, search for Cost Management + Billing.
- Select the correct billing account.
- Go to Billing > Payment methods > Azure credits.
- Confirm the credits appear in the same billing scope as the subscription being charged.
If the credits were redeemed through a legacy experience, credits may have been applied to a new Azure subscription and not to an existing pay-as-you-go subscription. In that case, the credits do not automatically offset charges on the other subscription.
For partner benefits, the behavior depends on redemption method:
- Legacy redemption creates a new Azure subscription and credits can’t be applied to an existing pay-as-you-go subscription.
- Modernized redemption deposits credits onto a Billing Profile, and subscriptions under that billing profile can use the credits.
If the charged subscription is not in the same billing profile or is an older existing subscription from a legacy redemption flow, that explains why the charges were billed separately.
