Microsoft for Startups Eligibility for Student Project

I am a student independently developing an early-stage AI/software project and would like to explore Microsoft for Startups and Azure credits to support its development. However, I do not currently have a legally registered company or incorporated startup. During the application process, I was asked to provide a company name and payment card information.

I would like to know whether there is an alternative pathway for students or individuals developing legitimate early-stage software projects to receive Microsoft/Azure startup support, credits, or other resources without first incorporating a company or entering a paid Azure subscription.

I would also appreciate guidance on which Microsoft program would be most appropriate for my situation.

Azure | Azure Startups
Azure | Azure Startups

Startups: Companies that are in their initial stages of business and typically developing a business model and seeking financing.

Hello @Kushal Bora , I hope you are doing well,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

If you are developing an early-stage project independently and do not yet have an incorporated company, Azure for Students is likely the most appropriate Microsoft program if you meet its eligibility requirements.

Azure for Students provides $100 in Azure credits for 12 months and does not require a credit card. You must be a full-time student at an accredited degree-granting institution and verify your student status using your academic email address. Microsoft for Startups has different eligibility requirements. The current program is intended for startups developing software-based products or services that are owned by the company, and the company must be privately held and for-profit. Therefore, if you are currently an individual student without a company, Azure for Students would generally be the better fit. You can review the official requirements here:

I would recommend using Azure for Students while you are in the student/project stage rather than incorporating a company solely to qualify for Microsoft for Startups.
