I powerpoint on apple devices. I have crated 20 powerpoint slide decks each with roughly 6 - 20 slides. I separately recorded voiceover narration for each slide and used the insert audio from file option to add the voiceovers 1 by 1. I unchecked on mouse click and saved. I checked and confirmed start automatically is the setting. that is all I did not touch any other options. for some decks when I click play slide show everything works fine.. I click play slide show from start, or wherever, and the voiceover plays and the slide automatically transition just fine. I never used Rehearse Slide Show, I never enter anything any Transition for Duration and never set "After." I t has word fine like this no problem but sometimes doing the exact same step the slide show never transitions just stays on first slide. Trouble shooting i am getting is things like going through each slide in each deck individually using Rehearse Slide and reviewing and excepting timing slide by slide. for me that is well over 100 slides, AI is saying i need to manually set an "After" time for each or use "Rehearse Slide Show "for each, and or " enable an audio playback trigger." which i have never done or used for any of the se steps for the ones that work just fine. I have 20 decks that include 100 slides total and individual voiceover audio recorded separately and read to insert. Please what is the LEAST painful option so the slides automatically transition and so so based on lenght of inserted audio?

The decks that advance probably already contain saved timings, possibly inherited from copied slides or a template. Starting audio automatically does not itself advance the slide.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Open a working deck and a nonworking deck, then select View > Slide Sorter. A saved time appears below each timed slide. If times appear only in the working deck, that confirms the difference.

In the nonworking deck, select Slide Show > Set Up Slide Show. Under Advance slides, choose Use Timings, if present, not Manually. This setting can prevent existing automatic timings from being used.

Select each audio icon and make sure Play Across Slides and Loop Until Stopped are off. Those options can keep audio running beyond its intended slide. Start > Automatically should remain selected.

If only certain decks fail, save a copy as a new.pptx, close PowerPoint, reopen it, and test again. For one affected slide, delete and reinsert its audio to check whether that media item is damaged.

Unfortunately, PowerPoint for Mac has no separate command that reads every inserted audio length and automatically builds matching slide advances.

The least painful option is to use slide timings, because PowerPoint does not auto-advance a slide based on when an inserted audio file ends. The supported behavior is:

slide advance is controlled by Transitions > Advance Slide > After
recorded narration can automatically create timings when using PowerPoint’s recording feature
separately inserted audio files do not make the slide advance automatically just because playback finishes

For a deck where inserted voiceovers already play automatically but some slides do not advance, set the slide timing for each slide to be longer than that slide’s audio length.

On Mac, use this path:

Select a slide.
Go to Transitions.
Under slide advance, set After to a time longer than that slide’s voiceover.
Repeat for each slide that has a different narration length.

If several slides can use the same timing:

Set the timing on one slide.
Select Apply to All.
Then adjust only the slides that need a longer or shorter time.

If the presentation should run unattended, this is also the supported setup:

Go to Slide Show.
Use Rehearse Timings if preferred.
Or manually set Transitions > After and optionally set Duration for the transition speed.

Important details:

Start Automatically for audio controls when the audio begins, not when the slide advances.
If a slide contains audio of varying length, the transition time must be set to exceed that audio length.
Transition timing is based on the slide’s display time, not on the end of the audio or video.
If recorded narration is used through PowerPoint’s recording feature, PowerPoint can automatically save slide timings.

For the current set of 20 decks and 100 slides, the lowest-effort practical approach is:

Use Apply to All for a baseline timing where possible.
Increase timing only on slides with longer voiceovers.
For future decks, use Record Slide Show / recorded narration if automatic timing capture is needed.

There is no supported setting in the provided material for “advance exactly when inserted audio file ends” without setting timings manually or recording timings.
