Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Microsoft 365 Personal includes 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage, but Outlook.com mailbox storage is 100 GB, not 1 TB.
What to check:
- Open the Microsoft storage area of the account dashboard to confirm the quota on the account that has the subscription.
- In Outlook.com, open Settings and search for Storage to see how much mailbox storage is being used and whether the warning is for:
- Email storage (mailbox), or
- Microsoft cloud storage / OneDrive
- If the subscription was purchased very recently, the increased storage may not appear immediately. For storage upgrades, it can take up to 24–48 hours for the new quota to show.
- If the mailbox is already near the limit, note that consumer mailbox storage is capped at 100 GB. More OneDrive storage does not increase the Outlook.com mailbox beyond that.
What this means:
- Free account: 15 GB mailbox + 5 GB cloud storage
- Microsoft 365 Personal: 100 GB Outlook.com mailbox + 1 TB OneDrive storage
- If the warning is about OneDrive/Microsoft storage being full, Outlook.com can also stop sending and receiving mail until the cloud storage is back under quota.
If the subscription is active but Outlook.com still shows the wrong limit after 48 hours, contact Microsoft support from Outlook.com by selecting Help on the menu bar and using Still need help?, or use the public support contact option.
