Problem receiving important emails

I am receiving important emails but only if I search for them. They are not showing up in my focused; other or junk folders.

I can send emails. I am still receiving marketing emails in my other and junk folders. This is a recent problem (commenced 26/7/26) but is extremely inconvenient ( I am waiting for an unconditional job offer and am trying to communicate with 2 different sets of solicitors regarding the management of my dead aunts estate and the sale of a property)

Since the messages can be found only by search and are not visible in Focused, Other, or Junk, check the inbox view and filtering first, then the Outlook.com mail settings.

    1. In Outlook on the web, make sure the message list is sorted correctly:
      • Select Filter > Sort > Date.
      • This restores chronological order if messages are appearing out of order.
    2. Check both inbox tabs:
      • Open Focused and Other.
      • If Focused Inbox is causing confusion, hide it and use a single message list instead.
    3. Check Outlook.com filtering and folders:
      • Ensure the inbox is not filtered to a limited view.
      • Check Archive, Deleted Items, and Junk Email.
      • If a message is in Junk but should not be, right-click it and choose Mark as not junk.
    4. Check for mail rules and forwarding:
      • Verify there are no email rules moving or hiding messages.
      • Check that email forwarding is not enabled.
    5. Search for the sender and domain:
      • Search for the sender’s address or domain in Outlook on the web.
      • If found in another folder, move the messages back to Inbox.
    6. Add the important senders to Safe senders and domains:
      • In Outlook on the web, go to Settings > Mail > Junk email.
      • Add the sender’s exact address and domain under Safe senders and domains.
    7. If the missing messages are from specific senders and no error appears in Outlook.com, ask those senders to check Sender Support in Outlook.com for delivery guidance.
    8. If cloud storage is full, Outlook.com cannot send or receive email. Check mailbox storage and clear space if needed. Messages sent while storage was full are bounced back to the sender and are unrecoverable.

Because this started recently and the emails are searchable but not visible in the normal list, the most relevant checks are Sort by Date, inbox filtering, Focused/Other, and any rules or forwarding settings.
