If the account was originally treated as a child account, updating the birth date and removing it from a family group does not always immediately remove child restrictions for Xbox/Minecraft features.
Use this path:
- Check whether the account still requires consent.
- Sign in to your Microsoft account profile at https://account.microsoft.com/profile/edit-profile-information.
- If a message says "Parent or guardian consent is required for this account.", start a consent request at https://login.live.com, choose I'm a parent or guardian, sign in with an adult Microsoft account, approve Yes, I agree, then go to Family Safety and select Edit this child's personal info.
- If the account already has consent, use the adult account that originally gave consent.
- Sign in to Manage child accounts at https://account.live.com/mykids.aspx.
- Select Edit this child's personal info and complete the update there.
- If the account is still being treated as a child for Xbox/Minecraft, manage the privacy settings from an adult/organizer account.
- Add the account to a Microsoft family as a family member if needed.
- Use the adult account to open the child account’s Xbox privacy and online safety settings.
- Set the multiplayer-related options to Allow, then submit the changes.
- Wait up to 24 hours for the changes to apply, then sign out and sign back in to Minecraft and related Microsoft/Xbox services.
- If Family Safety restrictions are still enforced on the PC after the account is corrected, run a safety refresh on the device.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
cmdand select OK. - Run:
schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask" - Restart the computer.
- This must be done on each affected device.
Important limits from Microsoft’s guidance:
- Only the adult account that originally granted consent can manage or remove that consent.
- If the wrong adult account granted consent, that adult account must be used, or that adult account must be recovered first.
- If multiplayer is blocked specifically in Minecraft/Xbox services, the account may still need the adult account to change Xbox privacy settings even after the birth date was corrected.
