If the goal is to add the account in the Windows 8 Mail app, use these steps:

    1. From Start, select the Mail tile.
    2. If Mail shows Add your Microsoft account, sign in with a Microsoft account first, then continue.
    3. If Mail shows Add your email accounts, select Outlook.
    4. If Mail opens an existing mailbox instead:
      • Open Settings
      • Select Accounts > Add an account > Outlook
    5. On Add your Outlook account, enter the email address and password for the account to add, then select Connect.
    6. Mail will search online for the server settings.
    7. If setup succeeds and Your email account is successfully configured appears, select Finish.
    8. If Make my PC more secure appears, review it and select Enforce these policies.

If Mail cannot set up the account automatically, manual server details may be needed. For POP or IMAP setup in Mac Mail, the incoming Microsoft 365 server is outlook.office365.com and the outgoing SMTP server is smtp.office365.com.
