Hello Microsoft Support,

We are experiencing an inconsistent auto-grading issue in Microsoft Forms Quiz.

Issue

Some respondents are being awarded 0 points despite selecting the correct answer. The quiz is configured correctly, and the correct option is marked in the quiz editor.

Details

  • Form Type: Microsoft Forms Quiz
  • Sharing setting: Anyone can respond
  • Auto-grading enabled
  • The issue occurs only for a few respondents, while the majority receive the correct score for the same question.
  • We verified that the correct answer is still marked correctly in the editor.
  • The issue is not consistent and cannot be reproduced for every submission.

Question:

Which university does this logo belong to?

Correct answer configured:

University (Option 1)

Observed behavior:

Some respondents selected Option 1 (University) but were awarded 0 points, whereas other respondents selecting the exact same option received full marks.

What we have already checked

  • Verified that the correct answer is configured correctly.
  • Verified that the quiz was fully configured before participants started responding.
  • No edits were made to this particular question after responses began.
  • Tested the quiz ourselves, and it scores correctly in most cases.

Since this quiz was used at a live student event, we'd appreciate your help in identifying the cause of this inconsistent grading behavior and whether there is any known issue or workaround.

      • The question configuration showing the correct answer selected
      • An example response where the respondent selected the correct answer but received 0 points
    • Does the issue persist if the same question is tested in a newly created quiz?
