Transfer GoDaddy-managed MS365 tenant to MS Direct

I have an existing Microsoft 365 tenant that was originally provisioned through GoDaddy. I have Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365 Business Professional licensing, and multiple users already in the tenant. I want to stop purchasing Microsoft 365 through GoDaddy and purchase my licenses directly from Microsoft. I do not want to create a new tenant or migrate mailboxes if it can be avoided. I want to know the process for transferring the existing tenant from GoDaddy's CSP management to Microsoft direct.

Hi @Todd Walpole

You can defederate billing directly to Microsoft without deleting your tenant or migrating user mailboxes.

Follow these steps:

  1. Remove GoDaddy CSP Relationship: Go to Entra ID Portal > Identity > Users > Partner relationships (or M365 Admin Center > Billing > Partner Relationships) and revoke GoDaddy's CSP Partner relationship.
  2. Purchase Direct Licenses: Log into Microsoft 365 Admin Center with your Global Admin account (******@yourdomain.onmicrosoft.com), navigate to Billing > Purchase services, and buy your replacement M365 licenses directly.
  3. Reassign & Cancel: Assign the new Microsoft direct licenses to your users. Once assigned, cancel subscriptions inside your GoDaddy dashboard to prevent duplicate charges.
