virus msgs from Windows Defender

Yesterday I started receiving virus alert msgs from Windows Defender that won't go away. McAfee isn't finding any viruses. I can't get the msgs to go away. Some say scan now, they scan, find three trojans, but don't fix. There are also msgs supposedly from McAfee and Norton saying to scan and fix.

What do I need to do to quit getting these msgs from Windows Defender. I have checked my settings

but I really don't know much about them. I need help. These msgs are blocking the right side of my

screen.

These are likely either browser push notifications or threat notifications that need action in Windows Security.

    1. In Windows Security, open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
      • If a threat is listed, select Clean computer if shown.
      • If Show details appears, review the item and choose Remove or Quarantine.
      • Only choose Allow if the software and publisher are fully trusted.
    2. If the same alerts keep returning, run an offline scan.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
      • Under Current threats, select Scan options.
      • Select Windows Defender Offline scan, then Scan now.
      • Save work first, because the PC restarts before the scan.
    3. If the pop-ups appear only when online or while browsing, remove browser notification permissions in Microsoft Edge.
      • Enter edge://settings/content/notifications in the Edge address bar.
      • In the Allow list, remove or block any site that is not recognized.
      • Suspicious entries are a common cause of fake McAfee, Norton, or Defender alerts.
      • Ask before sending can also be turned off to block all site notification prompts.
    4. If Microsoft Defender keeps encountering scan or removal errors:
      • Run Windows Update to make sure the latest fixes and components are installed.
      • If update errors continue, try installing the latest protection updates manually.
    5. If the offline scan causes a blue-screen stop error twice, contact Microsoft Support.

For the actions shown in Defender:

    • Remove deletes the file.
    • Quarantine moves it to a safe location so it cannot run.
    • Allow lets it run and stops future alerts for that item.

Because the messages include McAfee and Norton alerts mixed with supposed Defender alerts, and they are blocking part of the screen, the most likely immediate fix is removing suspicious Edge notification permissions and then running Microsoft Defender Offline.
