Thank you and Hello!

I am Heny M Ambriz and I find myself at the end of my life. I am 82 years old, I just had an operation a year ago when I almost died. I expect to live but a few years. I am a real amateur when it comes to modern electronics. It's all Greek to me!

I like my present computer which I only use for personal daily routine matters like checking my e-mail, reading the NY Times, and Balancing my checkbook and from time to time doing on line purchases to keep me alive. I no longer drive, so I can't go out to get groceries. I shop on line. Just the basics.

Since I am ready to depart this world, I still use my "old" computer and there is no need to transfer to any new versions, which I do not understand, nor can I handle. Changes, from you, are going too fast and I am very afraid I will lose all means to keep surviving in this advanced world.

I am very fearful that my only source of "modernism" will just be pulled away from me. I am panicking.

All I pray is that you will re-consider something for the many seniors like me who depend on what we have and that you allow us to continue until our end of existence. I am not the only one----I am sure there are MANY who find themselves in panic of the new situation. I pray to God that you may be kind to us.

Hi Henry,

You wrote a good letter, better than I can write.

I know it's difficult to adapt to all the changes in the world. The problem for most is holding on to the old electronics and trying to make them work when they can no longer do that.

I find that the newer electronics are easier to use, but that is, of course, if you let them do what they are designed to do.

I get what you're saying. If someone gave me a Ferrari or a Lamborghini to drive, I would crash in seconds. I cannot handle so much power. That's why I drive a Honda. So simple that even I can figure it out.

If I wrote to Ferrari and said "All I do is drive back and forth to the movies now and then. Can't you build a simpler car for people like me?" they would say "Friend, you need a Honda, not a Ferrari."

What you want is the Honda of computers, and they have been around for ages. Here are a few ideas:

The Telikin is a computer built specifically for seniors, and so is the GrandPad. These are great computers and you'll never have to worry about all that crazy technical stuff. A Chromebook is another great solution, and not at all expensive. A Chromebook is basically a browser and email machine. They are real easy to use, because Google (who created the Chromebook) manages all the complicated stuff for you. A Chromebook is what I use most of the time.

But if you're planning to stick with a Lamborghini, well, you can't expect them to make it into a Honda.
