microsoft edge does not work,

Work through these in order, and test Edge after each step:

1. End all Edge processes.
   • Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
   • End every msedge.exe task.
   • Start Edge again.
2. Try a temporary Edge profile to check whether the current profile is corrupted.
   • Open Command Prompt and run:

      "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --user-data-dir="%TEMP%\edge-test-profile"
   

   • If Edge opens with this test profile, the original profile is likely the problem.
3. Create a new profile if the test profile works.
   • Close all Edge windows.
   • Go to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data.
   • Rename the Default folder to Default.old.
   • Start Edge again so it creates a fresh Default profile.
   • If Edge is stable, copy needed data such as Bookmarks from Default.old to the new profile.
4. Repair Microsoft Edge.
   • Make sure Edge is closed for all users.
   • Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
   • Select Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair.
   • This requires internet access and administrative rights. Browser data and settings should not be affected.
   • If Modify is unavailable, Edge may be managed by an organization and a system administrator is required.
5. Check whether Edge is up to date.
   • If Edge opens, go to Settings and more > Settings > About Microsoft Edge and apply any available update.
6. Restart Windows.
   • A running process can interfere with Edge. Restart the PC and test again.
7. Check security software.
   • If third-party antivirus or security software is installed, update it and test Edge again.
8. If Edge opens briefly but pages fail or crash:
   • Close other tabs, apps, and unnecessary extensions.
   • Clear browsing data from Settings and more > History > Open history page > Delete browsing data.
