Why is our Microsoft Clarity interface showing URLs from other websites? Example, it was showing this URL in the live recordings: https://www.thredup.com/product/women-polyester-andersons-green-athletic-shorts/218444243?query_id=1191869669327036416&result_id=1191869670048456704
and also https://www.vintagefootballarea.com/products/2019-20-ajax-amsterdam-xl-3?ref=direct
and others that appear to be various random ecommerce sites.
But our website is www.bennettjones.com and Clarity should only be showing URLs from our site. Does anyone have an explanation?

Hi Grant,
What you're seeing is not necessarily an indication that those external websites are being tracked as part of your own site. In some cases, Microsoft Clarity recordings can display URLs related to referral sources, redirects, embedded third-party content, or tracking configurations associated with a session. Based on your examples, the URLs shown are unrelated to your domain, so it would be worth reviewing how Clarity is being implemented.
A few quick checks you can perform:
If the behavior continues, consider collecting a few example session IDs and reaching out to the Clarity support team for a deeper review of the recordings. Link reference for more guidance documents: Microsoft Clarity Documentation
I hope this helps point you in the right direction. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

Verify that the Clarity project ID is installed only on your website and not reused on other websites. --> Our Clarity ID doesn't appear to be installed on those sites but I also cannot access their GTM accounts obviously. We have no access to those sites or affiliation with them.
If you use Google Tag Manager, confirm the Clarity tag is scoped only to your intended domain. --> Yes, using GTM. How are we supposed to make sure it is "scoped only to intended domain"? Is there a setting in GTM tag for that? Please be more specific.
This can happen if the same Clarity project or tracking code is being used on another domain. I’d first check whether the tracking code has been added to any staging sites, third-party landing pages, or external pages by mistake.
Another thing worth checking is third-party integrations. For example, if your site links users to an external restaurant menu or online food ordering page, make sure the tracking setup isn’t being carried over to that external domain. The same applies to embedded forms, widgets, redirects, or other third-party tools.
I’d also verify the Clarity project ID and review where the tracking script is installed. If completely unrelated ecommerce URLs are appearing as entry pages, that would be a stronger indication that another site is using the same project ID rather than simply being a normal outbound link.
