OneDrive for IoS and Windows feature request: Sort by Date Taken

Often when out with friends or family, we wish to find an old photo and the main thing we know is the year or approximate year when the photo was taken.

The reason we'd like to see Date Taken as a sorting option is that we use OneDrive for storing scanned photos from our family photo collection. These were created or modified in recent years, usually on the same days when scanning and filing was done. That makes Date Created or Date Modified unsuitable for sorting by the photos' true timelines.

I made the effort to set the Data Taken fields in all of these photos when scanning them, so it would be good to be able to use that date for sorting. As an example, I've scanned photos from as far back as 1917. A real world, recent example was when with friends we used to work with asked whether we still have a photo taken in 1983 at a Basketball Camp. Being able to scroll through by Date Taken would have made it easy to find it.

Thanks

John

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your suggestion about adding a 'Sort by Date Taken' option in OneDrive and I completely understand how valuable this would be, especially for organizing scanned family photos where the true timeline is embedded in the Date Taken field rather than the file creation or modification dates. Your example of wanting to quickly locate a photo from 1983 illustrates the practical benefit of such a feature.

On this case, the best way to raise this request is through the Feedback Hub app on Windows or the 'Help & Feedback' option in the OneDrive mobile app. Submitting it there ensures your suggestion is logged directly with the product team and can gain visibility if other users support it.

We appreciate your thoughtful input and encourage you to submit this request via the feedback system so it can be considered for upcoming releases.
