A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data
Hello Jayakumar Janardhanan (TCS),
This can happen when the worksheet is currently displayed in Page Layout or Page Break Preview.
The "Show page breaks" setting is intended to control whether page-break lines are displayed while the worksheet is in "Normal view". Similar behavior has also been reported by other Excel users.
Please try the following steps:
- Open the View tab in Excel.
- Under Workbook Views, select Normal.
- Go back to File > Options > Advanced.
- Scroll down to Display options for this worksheet.
- Confirm that the correct worksheet is selected in the dropdown menu.
- Check whether Show page breaks is now available and can be turned off.
Please also note that Excel uses two types of page breaks:
- Automatic page breaks are created automatically based on the paper size, margins, print scaling, and worksheet content. These breaks cannot be removed directly, but their position can change when the print settings or worksheet layout are adjusted.
- Manual page breaks are inserted by the user. These can be removed individually or reset.
To remove a manual page break, select the row directly below a horizontal page break or the column directly to the right of a vertical page break. Then go to Page Layout > Breaks > Remove Page Break. To remove all manually inserted page breaks, select Page Layout > Breaks > Reset All Page Breaks.
For more detailed guidance, please refer to the following Microsoft article: Insert, move, or delete page breaks in a worksheet | Microsoft Support
Please try switching the worksheet back to Normal view first, then check whether the option becomes available and whether the page break can be removed.
Kind regards,
