Dear DUNNETT, Kirra (kdunn139),
Good day! Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!
Based on your description, I understand that you're unable to activate Microsoft 365 on your Mac. When you open Word or PowerPoint, the apps are in View Only Mode and prompt you to activate Microsoft 365. However, after entering your Education Queensland email address, you receive the error message "An unknown error has occurred (Error Code: 0x0)", preventing you from creating or editing documents.
Regarding this situation, please try the following suggestions to check what might have caused the issue:
- Fully close all your Microsoft Office applications
- Open Word and go to Help > Check for Updates, then install any available Office updates
- Sign out of all Microsoft accounts in Office: Open any Office app > Select your profile icon in the top-right corner > Sign out of all accounts
- Restart your Mac
- Reopen Word or PowerPoint and sign in again using your Education Queensland account
For your information: The 2 key requirements to continue using Office on macOS after July 13, 2026 are:
- macOS version: macOS 12 Monterey or later is required. Devices running macOS versions older than Monterey will not be able to receive the necessary Office updates.
- Office version: Microsoft 365 Apps or Office 2021 (updated to the latest supported version) is required. Office 2019 for Mac is not supported because it reached end of support on October 10, 2023 and cannot be updated to a compliant version.
If your Mac doesn't support macOS 12 Monterey or your iPhone/iPad doesn't support iOS 17, you won't be able to install the required Office updates.
You could:
- Use Microsoft 365 on the web (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) through a browser
- Use Office on a supported device
- Consider upgrading your device if needed
For references:
- Unknown Error 0x0 or License not found error in Microsoft 365 or Office running on macOS
- Update Microsoft 365 or Office on your macOS or iOS device
I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.
Kindly let me know when there are updates or if you need further assistance. Any updates you're able to share would be really helpful. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing how things are going!
Thank you for your time and patience.
