My email, which is gmail, suddenly stopped syncing with my 365 New Outlook app. It has worked for several years then stopped on 7/26/26. In outlook I still receive emails thru my inbox, but if I am in outlook and delete an email it does not delete in my web based gmail account plus when I removed and reinstalled my outlook account and profile and then reinstalled it, certain folders in my outlook did not sysnc and a lot of emails are missing. All emails in my gamil account are still there. If I delete emails in my gamil account they do delete in outlook. Any ideas.

I also tried to switch to Classic. The folders did filter over to all the outlook folders however each time I opened classic up it tried to sysnc all folders and boxes and it would take hours to sync up. This reapeated it self each time.

For Gmail in Outlook, the supported facts point to two likely causes for the symptoms described:

    1. Folder visibility/sync settings in Gmail If folders are missing in Outlook while the mail is still present in Gmail, make sure those Gmail labels are enabled for IMAP:
      1. In a browser, open Gmail.
      2. Go to Settings > Labels.
      3. Make sure Show in IMAP is selected for Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, and All Mail.
      4. Enable Show in IMAP for any other labels that should appear in Outlook.
      5. Refresh Outlook afterward. Sync changes can take up to 15 minutes to appear.
    2. A known Gmail sync/authentication issue in classic Outlook Microsoft documented a Gmail/Yahoo sync issue in classic Outlook where accounts stop syncing and Outlook does not prompt again for sign-in. The workaround is intended to force Outlook to prompt for sign-in again.

For the classic Outlook behavior described, the documented workaround is:

    1. Close Outlook.
    2. Open Credential Manager from the Windows Start menu.
    3. Go to Manage your credentials > Windows Credentials.
    4. Under Generic credentials, locate entries starting with MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2.
    5. Remove the entries that include tp_google_imap_Oauth2 for the Gmail account.
    6. Restart Outlook and sign in to the Gmail account again.
    7. Restart Outlook again if syncing does not resume immediately.

If that does not fix classic Outlook, Microsoft also documents a registry-based workaround to remove the Gmail identity key so Outlook prompts for sign-in again. Warning: editing the registry is risky and incorrect changes can affect Outlook or Windows. Use that only if the Credential Manager steps do not work.

Also, for classic Outlook setup issues with IMAP accounts, Microsoft says Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) should be unchecked.

One more product limitation is relevant: for Outlook mobile, Microsoft states IMAP only supports mail, not calendar or contacts. No equivalent limitation for New Outlook folder deletion behavior is documented in the provided material.
